This application is particularly suitable for portable or remotely operated equipment, which requires an indication of a depleted or discharged battery. The quiescent current is typically 35 μA, which increases to 7 mA when the LED is turned on. R3 is optional and provides hysteresis if desired. Figure 9-21B shows the equations to calculate resistor values.
