The CS42L52 is a 24-bit low-power stereo CODEC noted for its high levels of integration and high-performance audio output. Providing up to one watt-per-channel of highly efficient Class D amplification to external speakers, or enough power to drive 44 milliwatts per channel into stereo headphones, the CS42L52 offers the flexibility to run its core from a single power supply and directly connect the Class-D amplifier to the battery supply for a more efficient operation. This IC is ideal for portable consumer electronics applications such as portable media players, game devices, MP3 player accessories, IC recorders, digital cameras and camcorders.
The CS42L52 builds upon the innovative design techniques of Cirrus Logic's recently introduced low-power audio CODECs by creating its own on-chip negative power supply voltage. With its ground-centered outputs, the CS42L52 helps to reduce clicks and pops during start up, improves low-end frequency response and eliminates costly, space-consuming DC blocking capacitors. The elimination of these capacitors reduces costs, simplifies product designs and enables smaller product form factors. The CODEC also features enhanced master clock support, which includes standard audio frequencies, as well as USB and video clocks.
The CS42L52 utilizes a 40-pin QFN package and consumes only 13 milliwatts of power at 1.8 volts in playback mode while driving stereo headphones.
The CS42L52-CNZ is a type of highly combined, low-power stereo CODEC with headphone and Class D speaker amp lifiers. The ADC input path accepts independent channel control of a number of features. Input summing amplifiers mi x and select line-level and/or microphone-level inputs for each channel. The microphone input path contains a select able programmable-gain pre-amplifier stage and a low-noise MIC bias voltage supply. A PGA is usable for line or micr ophone inputs and offers analog gain with soft-ramp and zero-cross transitions. These features make it ideal for low-power, portable system applications.
Features of the CS42L52-CNZ are:(1)12, 24, and 27 MHz master clock support in addition to typical audio clock rate s;(2) high-performance 24-bit converters:multi-bit delta-sigma architecture,very low 64Fs oversampling clock reduces power consumption;(3) low-power operation:stereo analog passthrough: 10 mW @ 1.8 V,stereo playback: 14 mW @ 1.8 V,stereo rec. and playback: 23 mW @ 1.8 V;(4) power-down management:ADC, DAC, CODEC, MIC pre-amplifier, pga,headphone amplifier, speaker amplifier;(5) headphone/speaker detection input;(6)pop and click suppression.
The absolute maximum ratings of the CS42L52-CNZ can be summarized as:(1):DC power supply(analog) is-0.3V min and 3.0V max,DC power supply(speaker) is-0.3V min and 6.0V max,DC power supply(digital) is-0.3V min and 3.0V max;(2):input current is ±10 mA max;(3):external voltage applied to analog input is AGND-0.3V min and VA+0.3 V m ax;(4):external voltage applied to analog output is VHP - 0.3V min and VHP + 0.3 V max; (5):external voltage applie d to digital input is -0.3V min and VL+ 0.3 V max;(6):ambient operating temperature (power applied) is -50°C min and +115 °C max;(7):storage temperature is -65°C min and +150°C max.
