CS8164 General Description
The CS8164 is a low dropout, dual8V/5V linear regulator. The secondary5V/100mA output is used forpoweringsystems with standby memory.Quiescent current drain is less than2mA when supplying 10mA loads fromthe standby regulator.
In automotive applications, theCS8164and all regulated circuits are protectedfrom reverse battery installations,aswell as high voltage transients. Duringline transients, such as a 60V loaddump, the 750mA output will automat-ically shutdown to protect both internalcircuits and the load, while the sec-ondary regulator continues to powerany standby load.
The on board ENABLE function con-trols the regulator's primary output.When ENABLE is in the low state, theregulator is placed in STANDBY modewhere it draws 2mA (typ) quiescentcurrent.
The CS8164 is packaged in a 5-lead
TO-220, with copper tab for connectionto a heat sink, if necessary.
