The M5L8251AP-5 is a universal synchronous/asynchronous receiver/transmitter (USART) IC chip designed for data communication use. It is produced using the N-channel silicon-gate ED-MOS process and is mainly used in combination with 8-bit microprocessors. The typical applications include modern control of data communication using microcomputers, control of CRF, TTY and other terminal equipment.
There are some features as follows. First is single 5 V supply voltage. The second is TTL compatible. Then is synchronous and asynchronous operation. Next is baud rate: DC 64k-baud. The fifth is full duplex, double-buffered transmitter/receiver. The last one is error detection: parity, overrun, and framing.
What comes next is about the absolute maximum ratings. The VCC (supply voltage) is from -0.5 to 7 V with respect to VSS. The VI (input voltage) is from -0.5 to 7 V with respect to VSS. The VO (output voltage) is from -0.5 to 7 V with respect to VSS. The PD (power dissipation) is 1000 mW at Ta=25. The Topr (operating free-air temperature range) is from -20 to +75. The Tstg (storage temperature range) is from -65 to +150. Then is about the recommended operating conditions (Ta=-20 to +75, unless otherwise noted). The minimum VCC (supply voltage) is 4.75 V, the typical is 5 V and the maximum is 5.25 V. The typical VSS (power supply voltage (GND)) is 0 V.
