The ML4632 is a fiber optic LED driver suited for networkapplications up to 20Mbps. The part is capable of drivingup to 100mA of current through a Fiber Optic LED froman ECL or TTL level input signal. Its efficient output stageprovides a high current that can be programmed foraccurate absolute output level as well as automatictemperature compensation. The combination of automatictemperature compensation and a highly accurate currentdriven design insures precise launch power.
The LED driver's output stage provides fast, well matchedrise and fall times through a unique class B output stagethat burns supply current only when the LED is on. Apositive temperature coefficient of up to 3300ppm/°C canbe programmed into the output current to compensate forthe negative temperature coefficient of the LED opticaloutput power. An optional peaking circuit may also beemployed.
The ECL and TTL inputs are ANDed so one can be usedfor data and the other for an enable input. An ECLcompatible BIAS voltage is also provided for single endedECL applications.

The ML4642 AUI Multiplexer contains all the necessarydrivers/receivers and control logic to implement a 2 portMAU when used in conjuction with a transceiver chipwhich has a standard 802.3 AUI interface. In addition, theML4642 is capable of operating in stand-alone modewhere it interconnects two DTEs in the absence of anetwork MAU. Several ML4642s can be cascadedtogether to implement a 4 or 8 port MAU or stand-alonedevice.
Logic within the ML4642 detects collisions resulting frommultiple DTEs transmitting simultaneously. In addition,collision signals received from a transceiver attached atthe MAU port are propagated to both of the DTE ports.Jabbering DTEs are prevented from loading down thenetwork by internal jabber timers which disable babblingports.
Absolute maximum ratings are limits beyond which thelife of the integrated circuit may be impaired. All oltages unless otherwise specified are measured withrespect to ground.
