MSM58321 General Description

The MSM 58321 is a metal gate CMOS Real Time Clock/Calendar with a battery backup function for use in bus-oriented microprocessor applications.

The 4-bit bidirectional bus line method is used for the data I/O circuit; the clock is set, corrected,or read by accessing the memory.

The time is read with 4-bit DATA I/O, ADDRESS WRITE, READ, and BUSY; it is written with 4-bit DATA I/O, ADDRESS WRITE,WRITE, and BUSY.

MSM5832RS General Description

The MSM5832RS is a metal-gate CMOS real time clock/canlendar for use in bus-oriented microprocessor applications. The on-chip 32.768Hz crystal oscillator time base is divided to provide addressable 4-bit controlled by 4-bit address,chip,select,read,write and hold inputs. Other functions include 12H/24H format selection,leap year identification and manual ±30 second correction.The MSM5832RS normally operates from a 5 V±5% supply. Battery backup operation down to 2.2 V allows continuation of time keeping when main power is off.The MSM5832RS is offered in an 18-lead dual-in-line plastic (RS suffix)package.

It has many unique features: the first one is 7 function-second,minute,hour,day,day-of-week,month,year. The second one is automatic leap year calendar. The third one is 12 or 24 hour format. The forth one is 4-bit data bus. The fifth one is 4-bit address. The sixth one is low power dissipation. The seventh one is single 5 V power supply, etc.Also, there are some absoute maximum ratings about it.Supply voltage(VDD) is -0.3 V to 7.0 V. Input voltage(Vi) is -0.3 V to VDD+0.3 V. Input voltage(Vi) is -0.3 V to VDD+0.3 V . Data I/O voltage is -0.3 V to VDD+0.3 V. Storage temperature(Tstg) is -55 to 150.Meanwhile,there are also some operating conidtions about it. Supply voltage(VDD) is 4.5 V min, 5 V typ and 7 V max. Standby supply voltage(VDH) is 2.2 V min and 7 V max. Input signal level(VIL) is -0.3 V min and 0.8 V max when VDD is 5 V±5%(respect to GND). Crystal oscillator freq(f(XT)) is 32.768 kHz typ. Operating temperature(Top) is -30 min and 85 max.
