Description

The 8273 is designed as programmable HDLC / SDLC protocol controller to support the ISO/CCITT's HDLC and IBM's SDLC communication line protocols. 8273 is fully compaible with intel's new high performance microcomputer systems such as MCS 188/186.

8273 has many features. The first one is CCITT X.25 compatible. The second one is HDLC/SDLC compatible. The third one is full duplex, galf duplex, or loop SDLC operation. The fourth one is up to 64K baud synchronous transfers. The fifth one is automatic FCS (CRC) generation and checking. The sixth one is up to 9.6 baud with on-board phase locked loop. The seventh one is programmable NRZI encode / decode. The eighth one is two programmable modem control ports. The ninth one is digital phase locked loop clock recovery. The tenth one is minimum CPU overhead. The eleventh one is single +5V supply. That are all the main features.

Some absolute maximum ratings and DC characteristics of 8273 have been concluded into several points as follow. The first one is about its ambinet temperature under bias which would be from 0°C to 70°C. The second one is about its storage temperature range which would be from -65°C to +150°C. The third one is about its voltage on any pin with respect to ground which would be from -0.5V to +7V. The fourth one is about its power dissipation which would be 1W. The fifth one is about its input low voltage which would be min -0.5V and max 0.8V. The sixth one is about its input high voltage which would be min 2.0V and max Vcc+0.5V. The seventh one is about its output low voltage which would be max 0.45V. The eighth one is about its output high voltage which would be min 2.4V. It should be noted that stressing the device beyond the "absolute maximum ratings" may cause permanent damage. These are stress ratings only.
