Description

The APW7093 is a reversible energy flow, constantoff-time, pulse-width modulated (PWM), step-downDC-DC converter. It is ideal for use in notebook andsub-notebook computers that require 1.1V to 5Vactive termination power supplies. This device featuresan internal PMOS power switch and internalsynchronous rectifier for high efficiency and reducedcomponent count. The internal 90mW PMOS powerswitch and 60mWNMOS synchronous-rectifier switcheasily deliver continuous load currents up to 3A. TheAPW7093 accurately tracks an external reference
voltage, produces an adjustable output from 1.1V toVIN, and achieves efficiencies as high as 94%.The APW7093 uses a unique current-mode,constant-off-time, PWM control scheme that allowsthe output to source or sink current. This featureallows energy to return to the input power supply thatotherwise would be wasted. The programmableconstant-off-time architecturesetsswitchingfrequenciesup to 1MHz, allowing the user to optimize performancetrade-offs between efficiency, output switching noise,component size, and cost. TheAPW7093 features anadjustable soft-start to limit surge currents duringstartup, a 100% duty-cycle mode for low-dropoutoperation, and a low-power shutdownmode that disablesthe power switches and reduces supply current below1A. TheAPW7093 is available in a 32-pin QFN withan exposed backside pad or a 16-pin SSOP.
