KA2981 General Description


The KA2981 is designed as a monolithic integrated circuit in a 16-lead dual in-line package for use in the VHF RE converter for VCRs, video game machines and so on. It has a feature that output level & picture/sound ratio can be controlled by external resistor.

KA2981 has six functions. (1)Video clamp. (2)White clip. (3)Video AM modulator. (4)FM modulator. (5)Sound carrier modulator. (6)RF carrier oscillator. Those are all the main functions.

Some absolute maximum ratings of KA2981 have been concluded into several points as follow. (1)Its supply voltage would be 10V. (2)Its power dissipation would be 330mW. (3)Its input pin signal voltage would be 2.5Vp-p. (4)Its input pin supply voltage would be from GND-0.3V to Vcc+0.3V. (5)Its operating temperature range would be from -10°C to 70°C. (6)Its storage temperature range would be from -55°C to 155°C. It should be noted that stresses above those listed in absolute maximum ratings may cause permanent damage to device.

Also some electrical characteristics of KA2981 are concluded as follow. (1)Its quiescent current would be min 16.5mA and typ 21.5mA and max 28mA. (2)Its video signal input voltage would be typ 3.45V. (3)Its sound signal input voltage would be typ 3.0V. (4)Its video output pin voltage would be typ 4.3V. (5)Its sound output pin voltage would be typ 4.25V. (6)Its SAW input 1 pin voltage with S2=OFF and S1=S3=ON would be 2.25V. (7)Its SAW input 1 pin voltage with S1=OFF and S2=S3=ON would be max 0.3V. (8)Its SAW input 2 pin voltage with S2=OFF and S1=S3=ON would be max 0.3V. (9)Its SAW input 2 pin voltage with S1=OFF and S2=S3=ON would be 2.25V. (10)Its operating voltage would be min 5.7V and typ 6.2V and max 6.7V. (11)Its video output level would be min 85dBu and typ 87dBu and max 89dBu.
