The LM7800 is a 3-terminal fixed voltage regulator.The voltage regulator is monolithic inttgrated circuit designed as fixed-voltage regulator for a wide variety of applications including local, oncard regulation. These regulators employ internal current limiting, thermal shutdown, and safe-area compensation.With adequate heatsinking they can deliver output currents in excess of 1.5 ampere.Although designed primarily as a fixed voltage regulator, these devices can be used with external components to obtain adjustable voltages and currents.

Features of the LM7800 are:(1)output current in excess of 1.5 ampere;(2)no external components required;(3)internal thermal ovcrload protection;(4)internal short-circuit current limiting;(5)output transistor safe-area compensation;(6)output voltage offered in 2% tolerance.A common ground is required between the input and the output voltage.The input voltage must remain typically 2.0V above the output vohsge even during the low point on the input ripple voltage.

The absolute maximum ratings of the LM7800 can be summarized as:(1)operating ambient temperature:-20 to +75°C;(2)storage temperature: -55 to 125°C;(3)input voltage:30V;(4)power disspation:15W;(5)operating junction temperature:-20 to +125°C.The products described in this document are designed, developed and manufactured as contemplated for general use, including without limitation, ordinary industrial use, general office use, personal use, and household use, but are not designed, developed and manufactured as contemplated (1) for any use that includes fatal risks or dangers that, unless extremely high safety is secured, could have a serious effect to the public, and could lead directly to death, personal injury, severe physical damage or other loss (i.e., nuclear reaction control in nuclear facility, aircraft flight control, air traffic control, mass transport control, medical life support system, missile launch control in weapon system), or (2) for any use where chance of failure is intolerable (i.e., submersible repeater and artificial satellite).
