LM7912K

The LM7912K is designed as one member of the LM79xx series of 3-terminal regulators which is available with fixed output voltages of -5V, -8V, -12V, and -15V. It needs only one external component - a compensation capacitor at the output. It is packaged in the TO-220 power package and is capable of supplying 1.5A of output current.

It has four features. (1) Thermal, short circuit and safe area protection. (2) High ripple rejection. (3) 1.5A output current. (4) 4% tolerance on preset output voltage. That are all the main features.

Some absolute maximum ratings have been concluded into several points as follow. (1) Its input voltage would be -35V. (2) Its input output differential would be 30V. (3) Its power dissipation would be internally limited. (4) Its operating junction temperature range would be from 0°C to +125°C. (5) Its storage temperature range would be from -65°C to +150°C. (6) Its lead temperature (soldering, 10 sec) would be 230°C. It should be noted that stresses above those listed in absolute maximum ratings may cause permanent damage to device.

Also some electrical characteristics about it. (1) Its output voltage would be min -11.5V and typ -12V and max 12.5V. (2) Its line regulation would be typ 5mV and max 80mV. (3) Its load regulation would be typ 15mV and max 200mV for 5mA <= Iout <= 1.5A and would be typ 5mV and max 75mV for 250mV <= Iout <= 750mA. (4) Its quiescent current is typ 1.5mA and max 3mA. (5) Its quiescent current change would be max 0.5mA with line and would be max 0.5mA with load. (6) Its output noise voltage would be typ 300uV. (7) Its ripple rejection would be min 54dB and typ 70dB. (8) Its dropout voltage would be typ 1.1V. (9) Its peak output current would be typ 2.2A. And so on.
