The MK48T08 integrates an 8K*8 full CMOS SRAM, a BYTEWIDE accessible real time clock, a crystal and a long life lithium carbon mono-fluoride battery into a single plastic DIP package. The device is a non-volatile pin and function equivalent to any JEDEC standard 8K*8 SRAM. In addition, the MK48T08 fits into many EPROM and EEPROM sockets which provides the non-volatility of PROMs without any requirement for special write timing, or limitations on the number of writes that can be performed.

There are some features of MK48T08 as follows: (1)integrated ultra low power SRAM, real time clock, crystal, power-fail control circuit and battery; (2)BYTEWIDE RAM-like clock access; (3)BCD coded year, month, day, date, hours, minutes and seconds; (4)software controlled clock calibration for high accuracy applications; (5)10 years of data retention in the absence of power; (6)pin and function compatible with JEDEC standard 8K*8 SRAM; (7)automatic power-fail chip deselect/write protection; (8)choice of two write protect voltages: 4.50VPFD4.75 V.
