The SN54LS440 is designed as one kind of bus transceivers for asynchronous three-way communication between four-line data buses. SN54LS440 gives the designer a choice of selecting inverting, noninverting or a combination of inverting and noninverting data paths with either 3-state or open-collector outputs.
SN54LS440 has four features. (1)3-way asynchronous communication. (2)On-chip bus selection decoding. (3)Input hysteresis improves noise margin. (4)Choice of open-collector ot 3-state outputs. Those are all the main features.
Some absolute maximum ratings of SN54LS440 have been concluded into several points as follow. (1)Its supply voltage Vcc would be 7V. (2)Its input voltage would be 7V. (3)Its off-state output voltage would be 5.5V. (4)Its operating free-air temperature range would be from -55°C to 125°C. (5)Its storage temperature range would be from -65°C to 150°C. It should be noted that stresses above those listed in absolute maximum ratings may cause permanent damage to device.
Also some electrical characteristics of SN54LS440 are concluded as follow. (1)Its high level input voltage would be min 2V. (2)Its low level input voltage would be max 0.5V.
