X5R Dielectric

X5R is the name of a dielectric material used in ceramic capacitors. X5R performs better than other dielectrics, such as Y5V, and permits the construction of physically smaller capacitors than other dielectrics, such as NP0 and X7R.Typically its temperature variation of capacitance is +/-15% over a range of -55 to +85 degrees Celsius. The temperature variation is, however, non-linear.
X5R is a class 2 dielectric. Dielectric Materials have been classified by the EIA (Electronic Industries Association). This classification denotes its specified temperature specification and the specified change in capacitance over this temperature range.
X5R dielectric has four general description,(1)General Purpose Dielectric for Ceramic Capacitors;(2)EIA Class II Dielectric;(3)Temperature variation of capacitance is within ±15% from -55°C to +85°C;(4)Well suited for decoupling and filtering applications;(5)Available in High Capacitance values (up to 100F).
