Recently, AMD officially launched the next generation high-performance AMDFusionA series APU (codenamed "Llano") for global mainstream consumer computing. A series APU adopts the CPU + GPU heterogeneous computing, which can bring the sense of technologies of the future computing experience for consumer PC users. Meantime, it has outstanding high-definition and 3D image display, all-day battery life without sacrificing performance and 50% higher efficiency than mainstream platform AMD2010, which is an unprecedented "one hundred nuclear acceleration" platform. A series APU also has a real "dual card" function that is to work with AMDRadeon graphics card with performance up to 75%. Fromthe second quarter, more than 150 models of OEM laptops and desktops use A series APU.
The popularity of software applications surely requires hardware support. The first AMDFusion Developer Summit and LlanoAPU Global Conference were held at the same time. Summit collects the heterogeneous computing pioneer, Opencl software developers and experts around the world. AMD plans to works out the "heterogeneous computing" framework blueprint by using APU technology. As for AMDFusionAPU platform, AMD gathers the leading software developer and manufacturer’s strength with the forward thinking to introduce more cutting-edge PC applications. Currently, there are already 50 leading application models can be accelerated by using AMDFusionAPU.
A series APU adopts CPU and GPU to form a heterogeneous computing system, and meantime, under the support of operating system and software application, real-time intelligent work allocation of CPU and GPU can truly fulfill the purpose of "collaborative computing, accelerating each other." The "heterogeneous computing" is the biggest difference for AMD as compared to rivals. It enables the notebook to have an excellent performance just like the "super computer". AMD senior vice president and product general manager RickBergman said: "AMDA Series A-PU has a turning point for AMD, meaning that it may be the biggest change in the industry since microprocessor architecture was produced.” After the conference, RickBergman shows next generation APUTrinity real machine, of which CPU part of APU uses powerful bulldozers (Bulldozer) core. Trinity’s parallel computing capabilities is 50% higher than the Llano, which will be officially launched in 2012. The related integrated circuit is N-3U.
