According to the report from India media, the number of emulational mobile phone imported from China to India has reached 38 million this year while during 2009 and 2010, there was only 20 million.
In the past three years, the amount of importation has grown fourfold on the year of 2007 and 2008 with 5.5 million, said the Indian Cellular Association. Although Indian government makes an utmost effort to control the expansion of China emulational phone such as forbidden using non-IMEI code phone, it is hard to stop its prevailing.
“It has changed a lot since several years ago”, said the ICA, “Handsets manufacture developed rapidly recent years and the whole industry is facing a significant challenge for many unqualified handsets come into Indian market. By so far, there are 3-3.5 million unqualified handsets imported to India every month.’’
In order to encourage the local handsets manufacturers, many supporting policies are hoped to come into existence including tax exemption for 15 years.
ICA added that manufacturing involves vast investment including workforce training. But the whole industry has not even get tax exemption except special economic zones. As far as ICA is concerned, the handsets industry should carry out duty-free policy to compete the worldwide market. As labor-intense industry, there is amplification effect on consumers’ benefits, especially on education and efficient use of time.
Therefore, Indian security department is going to further restrict the illegal mobile phone access. As far as we can see, however, these government bans never implemented for real and mobile phone operator continuously to provide service for IMEI-code handsets.
IMEI is a string of numerals applied for a unique handset to prevent from stealing. But in grey market, usually there is no IMEI code for handsets, which becomes a concern for security department. The related integrated circuit is LNK304GN.
