Founded in 1983, Lattice semiconductor is a leading supplier of high-performance programmable logical devices. It has more than 700 employees. For field-programmable gate array (FPGA) devices, the share of this company ranks fourth all over the world. The share ranks number two for CPLDs & SPLDs.
Recently, the ECP3 FPGA-enabled Sercos III module is released by this firm, which is designed for real-time industrial networking applications. The motion controls, drives, I/O, sensors and actuators are combined together by the Sercos for numerically controlled machines and systems. It is developed for the high-speed serial communication of standardized close-loop real-time data over industrial Ethernet. The Sercos III real-time Ethernet evaluation kit is composed of two boards and an optional module. With the LatticeMico32 soft microprocessor and other optional system functions, it is made in particular for test implementations and performance measurements of Sercos III slave devices based on the SERCON100S slave IP core.
The ECP3-35 FPGA, 8Mbyte flash and 8Mbyte DRAM form the FPGA module. The base board has 16DI and 16DO, all with status LEDs, an RS232 interface, various switches and the standardized bi-color Sercos III diagnostic LED. The power supply of the board is 24VDC or 5VDC. With the socket expansion module, more functions or interfaces can be added. The proven AUTOMATA Sercos III slave communication stack and test tools support the FPGA. The Sercos III networking platform will be revealed at November 22-24 in Nuremberg, Germany.
