The electronics market is always strong, which will continue if the fear of meltdown in the global economy comes to the end soon. The electronics market will have a period of hard time at the beginning of 2012. The predication from distributor association ECSN shows that the electronics market will still continue to shrink in the first six months of the year, and then the things may start to improve.
It is predicated by the ECSN that the component distribution market in the UK and Ireland will shrink by 5%next to total £1.12bn. According to ECSN members, the entire distribution market will increase by just over 4% this year. ECSN hope the first quarter of 2012 to be the nadir. Moreover, the excessive inventory in the supply chain is hitting bookings. While in passive components much of the excessive inventory has been removed, so the situation with semiconductors is still difficult. It may take one and a half quarter to make the inventory situation normal. The strong fundamentals are the most important thing.
For the storms of the global economy, the UK market is more resilient than it was five years ago. The manufacturing sector is smaller, but leaner and far more competitive. Apart from the shrinking market, some markets are still growing, such as aerospace, defence, security systems, M2M wireless and renewable energy.
