People in Western Europe and China like 3D television more than people in North America. According to the Q4’11 NPD DisplaySearch Quarterly TV Design and Features Report, the mix of 3D TV declined in Q3 2011 in North America. People from TV electronic research points out that 3D appears to be a far more popular feature in China than North America, and the penetration rate was two times higher in the last quarter. The penetration of 3D television is higher in Middle East than North American.
Different from the other regions, for example, Chinese consumers are inclined to buy TV sets with 3D, LED backlighting and smart TV capabilities; customers in North American like to buy inexpensive TV sets with fewer features. The report also examines the growth of smart TV in different regions and reveals that there are several emerging markets where fixed broadband appears to be leapfrogged by consumers. There are 10 to 15 times as many 3G subscribers as broadband in Saudi Arabia, Poland, the Philippines and Indonesia.
Apart from digital terrestrial and largely completed analogue switch-off which introduced by developed markets, a second generation of digital broadcast (DVB-T2) is now being used in Europe, the Middle East and Asia. The prospects for DVB-T2 reception are also included in the report. It points out that many countries have now adopted or committed to DVB-T2. The shipments of DVB-T2 are predicated to be 64.7 million in 2015. The governments of Russian and Indian decide to move to T2 also make the industry boom.
