Terasic Launched its New TR4 High-density Altera Stratix IV FPGA Platform

Terasic Technologies launched its new TR4 high-density Altera Stratix IV FPGA platform, which is tailored for flexibility with its high number of available I/O pins, high speed, and low-power. It features a stacking mechanism that allows the ability to easily choose the number of logic elements required for the end design.

The TR4 Development Board provides the ideal hardware platform for system designs that demand high-performance, serial connectivity, and advanced memory interfacing. Developed specifically to address the rapidly evolving requirements in many end markets for greater bandwidth, improved jitter performance, and lower power consumption, the TR4 is powered by the Stratix® IV GX device and supported by industry-standard peripherals, connectors and interfaces that offer a rich set of features that is suitable for a wide range of compute-intensive applications.

The TR4 is supported by multiple reference designs and six High-Speed Mezzanine Card (HSMC) connectors that allow scaling and customization with mezzanine daughter cards. For large-scale ASIC prototype development, multiple TR4s can be stacked together to create an easily-customizable multi-FPGA system.




The TR4 enables stacking through multiple High Speed Mezzanine Card (HSMC) connector ports which feature back-side male connectors for connecting to other TR4 boards. In total, there are 492 free I/O pins as well as transceivers that support a data rate up to 8.5 Gbps. The number of ports allows engineers to match the TR4 board to exact specifications by using add-on cards from Terasic or custom solutions.

The TR4 includes two Gen.2 x4 PCIe connectors that allow high-speed communication with a host computer. For memory, a DDR3 SO-DIMM module is provided, as well as on-board flash memory and high-speed SSRAM. The TR4 also features an on-board USB Blaster for direct FPGA programming via USB.
