Next-generation augmented reality displays can recognize user’s context-sensitive voice-and gesture command with total-surrounding awareness of other people, places and things. What is more, the smart memory must be used to stop advanced user-interfaces’ dependence on cloud connectivity.

Kispert, the CEO of Spansion Inc, points out that the cloud-based connectivity will be replaced by the local memory so that the context-aware augment-reality displays react faster and do not have to be online to function properly. The automobile users complain the sluggish response of cloud-based user-interface most at the Automotive Electronics (January 2012).

When it comes to the advanced voice-based user interface such as Apple’s Speech Interpretation and Recognition Interface (Siri), they need wireless cloud access to work. The response time is still in seconds. The local memory assets can solve the problems, which is able to provide context-aware augmented-reality displays that not only recognize their user in milliseconds, but also provide instant recognition of the other people, places and things in the immediate surroundings.

Manuals and instructions are not needed by the Uer-interface convergence nowadays; however, the local memory are needed by the head-up displays, recognition algorithms and context switching to work well regardless the wireless cloud.

The NOR flash memories are very essential to stop context-aware augmented-reality interfaces’ dependence on cloud-based assets, for it can provide nonvolatile configuration assets to modern user interfaces. Spansion will also attach much importance to the development of NOR flash memories.
