Synopsys Acquire RSoft to Extend its Business Scale

The EDA and IP vendor Synopsys Inc has acquired the photonic design company RSoft. Established in 1990, RSoft markets a component design suite, a system simulation tool, and a network modeling tool. RSoft’s software can be applied in many areas, such as telecommunication, semiconductor and optical areas.

The combination of Synopsys’ imagination and illumination design products with RSoft’s products enables Synopsys to expand its company’s platform to provide a more complete set of optical solutions to current customers and support new technologies, applications and market as they emerge.

The acquisition of the RSoft is regarded as a natural extension of Synopsys since it has entered into the optic market. This strategy is two-fold: on one hand, Synopsys’ leadership in EDA industry will continue; on the other hand, it helps to expand the total addressable market into adjacent technologies, including optical design. The addition of RSoft’s product will expand Synopsys’ product line in both the optical and adjacent photonic markets.

Synopsys’ TCAD Sentaurus portfolio also can be complemented by "RSoft’s products. RSoft’s capabilities enable Synopsys to extend its offering into other photonic areas such as optical waveguide modeling. The synergy will be strengthened by this and other capabilities, thus the Synopsys may have new opportunities with key customers.
