The MT8993BC is designed as an integrated digital telephone circuit which provides an on-chip HDLC data formatter (H-phone). Conversion of analog signals to digital PCM and vice versa is accomplished with an on-chip filter codec. Digital signal processing techniques provide speakerphone operation and generation of ringing tone and DTMF signals.

MT8993BC has eleven features. (1)Integratted digital telephone circuit. (2)u-LaW/A-Law codec and filters. (3)Programmable receive gain. (4)DTMF/Tone generator and tone ringer. (5)Speakerphone operation. (6)Interface to standard telephony transducers. (7)Sense/drive ports. (8)Single 5V power supply. (9)Intel/Motorola bus interface. (10)ST-BUS compatible. (11)X.25 (CCITT) level 2 HDLC data formatting. Those are all the main features.

Some absolute maximum ratings of MT8993BC have been concluded into several points as follow. (1)Its supply voltage would be min -0.3V and max 7V. (2)Its voltage on any I/O pin would be min Vss-0.3V and max Vdd+0.3V. (3)Its current on any I/O pin would be max +/-20mA. (4)Its storage temperature range would be from -65°C to 150°C. (5)Its power dissipation would be max 1.0W. It should be noted that stresses above those listed in absolute maximum ratings may cause permanent damage to device.

Also some electrical characteristics of MT8993BC are concluded as follow. (1)Its supply current would be typ 1mA and max 3mA for clock disabled and would be typ 2mA and max 4mA for clock enabled. (2)Its supply current handset speaker enabled no load would be typ 4mA and max 8mA. (3)Its supply current speaker driver enabled no load would be typ 5mA and max 13mA. (4)Its input high voltage TTL inputs would be min 2.0V. (5)Its input low voltage TTL inputs would be max 0.8V. (6)Its input voltage would be typ 2.5V.
