The S-4640A is designed as a CMOS thermal print head driver with a 64-bit shift register and a latch. The 100um driver output pad allows for high density mounting up to 200 dpi or 8 dots/mm.

S-4640A has seven features. (1)Low current consumption 0.5mA typ (fCLK=4MHz, Sl: stabilized). (2)High speed operation 7MHz single and 5MHz cascade connection. (3)Driver output voltage would be 36V max. (4)Driver output current 8mA typ. (5)A 64-bit shift register and a latch are built in. (6)Driver enable. (7)Driver-off function when supply voltage falls. Those are all the main features.

Some absolute maximum ratings of S-4640A have been concluded into several points as follow. (1)Its supply voltage would be from -0.4V to 7.0V. (2)Its driver output voltage would be 36V. (3)Its driver output current would be 17mA. (4)Its input voltage would be from GND-0.5V to Vdd+0.5V. (5)Its output voltage would be from GND-0.5V to Vdd+0.5V. (6)Its max junction temperature would be 125°C. (7)Its operating temperature range would be from -10°C to 80°C. (8)Its storage temperature range would be from -40°C to 125°C. It should be noted that stresses above those listed in absolute maximum ratings may cause permanent damage to S-4640A.

Also some electrical characteristics are concluded as follow. (1)Its supply voltage would be min 4.5V and typ 5.0V and max 5.5V. (2)Its high level driver output voltage would be max 26V. (3)Its high level input voltage would be min 0.7Vdd and max Vdd. (4)Its low level input voltage would be min GND and max 0.3Vdd. (5)Its high level input current would be max 0.5uA. (6)Its low level input current would be min -55uA and typ -17uA for STBX terminal and would be min -0.5uA except STBX terminal. And so on.
