TheSP78LXXseriesarethreeterminalpositiveregulatorswithseveralfixedoutputvoltages.Theseregulatorscanpro- vide local on-card regulation, eliminating distribution problems associated with single point regulation. The SP78LXXcanbeusedinlogicsystems,instrumentation,HiFi,andothersolidstateelectronicequipment.WhenusedasaZenerdiode/resistorcombinationreplacement,theSP78LXXusuallyresultsaneffectiveoutputimpedanceimprovementoftwo orders of magnitude, and lower quiescent current.

With adequate heat sinking the SP78LXX can deliver 100mA output current. Current limiting isincluded to limit the pea k output current to a safe value.Thermal protection is alsoprovided. If internalpowerdissipation becomes toohighfor theheat sinking provided, the thermal shutdown circuit takes over preventing the IC from overheating.

TheSP78LXXareavailableintheplasticTO-92, NSOIC-8, SOT-223 and SOT-89 packages.
