The Characteristics of ZigBee Pro Developed by AND TR and Renesas

A complete ZigBee Pro is taken by the AND Technology Research (AND TR) and Renesas, which aims for the smart metering, building automation and home appliance applications.

With Renesas’ M16C/6B single chip ZigBee silicon, the AND TR design kits can be tuned to offer optimum RF performance in the most demanding situations and have been tested for interoperability at ZigBee Smart Energy interoperability events. The “TestZED” modules included kits can be applied in product prototyping and are pre-programmed with the Renesas ZigBee Pro stack as well as the Smart Energy 1.1 profile. The modules can be controlled by Hyper Terminal command.

Depending on how it is initialised, the TestZED module has the function of both ZigBee Co-ordinator and Router. It is developed to interoperate with the bundled PC TestZED software in the advanced design kit. The users gain the great visibility of network communications with the TestZED PC software. Consequently, scenarios can be quickly set up and tested. As is standard with all AND TR products, the ConnectZED Evaluation Kits come backed by direct technical email and telephone support.

The users can not only find out the technical support at a simple call or email away, but also find have the inserted expertise and design services available, when they are developing the ZigBee based design.

In addition to many useful peripherals, the Renesas M16C/6B single chip silicon incorporates 16-bit CPU with an IEEE802.15.4 compliant 2.4GHz transceiver, up to 256kB of on-chip Flash coupled with 20kB RAM and 8kB of data flash. When the European Union and individual governments target ambitious roll outs of Smart Metering across the EU, AND TR is able to turn this goal into reality and is already actively supporting a number of their customers in technology trials. All in all, the stable cooperation between TND TR and Renesas gives much confidence to their customers.
