In this circuit, the ICL8212 is used as the controller for a highly-stable series voltage regulator. The output voltage is simply programmed, using resistor divider network R1/R2. C1 and C2 are required to ensure stability because the ICL8212 is not compensated internally. This regulator system can be used with lower input voltages and it consumes less power for a given output control current than most commercial regulators. Thus, the circuit is most useful for battery-powered systems that operate at low voltages.
