A very compact audio signal generator can be constructed using a precision waveform generator IC (ICL8038) made by Harris Semiconductor. This IC is unique in that it will generate three wave-forms: sine, triangle, and square waves. The frequency output is adjustable between 0.01 Hz and 300 kHz, and the sine-wave output distortion is less than 1 percent.
