The advantage of the programmable junction transistor (PUT) over a P-MOSFET used as a gate pull-down is that the PUT will pull the gate well below the MOSFET threshold voltage much faster at lower cost. The PUT can discharge a gate capacitance of 5 nF at 12V in 100 ns.
