The P2038-02 is designed as one kind of PbSe photoconductive detectors with detection capability up 5um range (TE-cooled type). Hamamatsu provides various types of PbSe photoconductive cells including room temperature operation types and thermoelectrically cooled types. Cooled type PbSe photoconductive cells offer higher sensitivity and improved S/N, and are widely used in precision photometry such as in analytical instruments.

P2038-02's four features. (1)High speed response. (2)Room temperature operation. Compared to other types of detectors used in the same wavelength range, PbSe cells have higher response speed and can also operate at room temperature, making them useful in a wide range of applications such as gas analyzers, etc. (3)Lower temperature detection limit 50°C approx. (4)Typical applications include radiation thermometer, flame detector, gas analyzer and film thickness gauge. Those are all the main features.

Some absolute maximum ratings of P2038-02 have been concluded into several points as follow. (1)Its package would be TO-8. (2)Its cooling would be one-stage TE-cooled. (3)Its active area would be 2mmx2mm. (4)Its thermistor resistance would be 9kohms. (5)Its thermistor power dissipation would be 0.2mW. (6)Its TE-cooler current dissipation would be 1.5A. (7)Its supply voltage would be 100V. (8)Its operating temperature range would be from -30°C to +50°C. (9)Its storage temperature range would be from -55°C to +60°C. P2038-02 should be noted that stresses above those listed in absolute maximum ratings may cause permanent damage to device.

Also some electrical characteristics of P2038-02 are concluded as follow. (1)Its measurement condition element temperature would be -10°C. (2)Its peak sensitivity wavelength would be 4.1um. (3)Its photo sensitivity would be min 1000V/W and typ 1000V/W. (4)Its rise time would be max 5us from 0 to 63%. (5)Its dark resistance would be 1.7 to 7.0Mohms. And so on.
