In 1979, Crown Semiconductor is founded, which manufactures LED and sensor products for banking and office equipment OEMs. In 1984, Crown Semiconductor was renamed OPTEK Technology, Inc. OPTEK Technology is a leading manufacturer of standard and application-specific sensors using infrared, visible, magnetic and fiber optic technologies focused on applications in signage, office machines, industrial equipment, encoders, automotive electronics, military and high-reliability applications, and medical diagnostic equipment. For nearly 40 years, OPTEK has been providing optoelectronic products for sensing and illumination applications.

OPTEK’s product portfolio includes standard and custom optoelectronic sensors and switches, magnetic sensors, hall-effect and magnetoresistive components, fiber optic components, and VCSELs. Equipped to meet the needs of worldwide customers, OPTEK products can be found in office equipment, industrial applications, encoders, military and high-reliability applications, medical diagnostic equipment, automotive and lighting applications. The capabilities of OPTEK also include the design and manufacturing of standard and application-specific lighting components and assemblies for applications in signage, channel lettering, backlighting, outdoor media, architectural lighting, specialty task lighting, high brightness indicators/illuminators, color on demand, entertainment, automotive exterior and interior lighting, and high-reliability applications.
